About Lasers

The Cosmetic Lasers
The word Laser is an acronym standing for Light Amplification by the Stimulated
Emission of Radiation.
A laser generates a high-intensity beam of light that has many applications
in medicine. The light produced by the laser is a single wavelength, similar
to choosing one pure color from a rainbow. Depending on the color chosen,
the laser energy is only absorbed by certain tissues. For instance, a
laser beam can pass safely through the surface of the skin and destroy
blood vessels or hair follicles lying just beneath the surface. The laser
light is converted to heat, causing thermal damage to the selected tissue
without damaging the surrounding tissue.
What does laser treatment feel like?
Most patients feel a slight stinging, tingling, or snap like a rubber
band for a fraction of a second. To minimize any discomfort, a cooling
device is often used on the skin depending on the type of laser or intense
pulsed light. In certain procedures, such as skin resurfacing, a local
analgesia may be used when needed. Photographs may be taken for your medical
record documentation and for future comparison, when deemed necessary.

Is it safe?
Yes. The energy that the laser utilizes is a wavelength of light which
can penetrate the skin in a passive fashion, meaning it passes through
your body and does not leave a residual, yet can selectively hit the target
tissue (i.e., the hair follicle or blood vessels).
Finally…
Will cosmetic laser surgery and intense pulsed light treatments make you
thin, rich and happy? No! Will it bring about amazing changes in your
skin problems that you might have thought were beyond help? Absolutely!
Cosmetic laser surgery promises a bright future for those seeking to enhance
their looks and turn back the hands of time. It is certainly something
that can improve both physical and emotional well being. Isn't
it time to reward yourself? You deserve it!
