Skin Type Chart For Laser Treatments

What Is Your Skin Type?

TYPE I	Always burns in the sun. Never gets tan.	Fair Skin	Light Eyes	Usually blonde or red hair
TYPE II	Sometimes burns, but it will turn into a tan. Most Caucasians.	Fair Skin	Light to Dark Eyes	Light brown hair to brown hair
TYPE III	Usually tans, rarely burns.	Medium Skin	Medium to Dark Eyes	Light brown to brown hair
TYPE IV	Seldom burns. Possibly Mediterranean, Asian, or Hispanic descent.	Olive skin	Dark Eyes	Brown or black Hair
TYPE V	Almost never burns. Possibly Mediterranean, Hispanic, light skin African-American, or other descent.	Dark skin	Dark Eyes	Dark hair
TYPE VI	Never burns. Possibly African-American, Indian, or West Indian descent.	Very dark skin	Dark Eyes	Usually black hair

**Most Caucasians are usually skin types I, II, or III.

***Skin types IV, V, and VI may require more laser treatments because lower fluences (lower power settings on the laser) are usually needed to protect the skins pigment in these skin types, and in some circumstances, these darker skin types may simply not be treatable by laser or various pulsed light treatments.
